Matthew 27
For Matthew 27 I selected the song "At the Cross" by Hillsong because the way the anonymous author shares the story, completely relates to the song lyrics. I chose a certain part of the chapter which was Jesus' death and resurrection on the cross. In the chapter, after three hours of Jesus being nailed onto a cross and the breathing struggles, He began to cry out to His Father asking why He abandoned Him. Right away one of the people who were "at the cross" took a wine vinegar filled sponge, attached it to an end of a spear and offered Jesus a drink. (Hillsong)
Afterwards Jesus gave up His spirit and at that moment He "tore the veil" in the temple causing the separation between man and God to be gone. (Hillsong) In the Bible it explains that the curtain (veil) in the temple was to separate the holiness of God from His people, but once Jesus died and "tore the veil/[He] made a way" for His people to be reconciled with Him, to be together with Him. (Hillsong)
Later in the book it explained that Jesus "over[came] the grave" and rose back to life letting His "glory fill the highest place" which is the world and heaven. (Hillsong) Jesus, who came into the flesh to be the perfect sacrifice was put to the cross, for His "blood [to be] shed for me" and for all of us really, to make a way to eternal life. (Hillsong)
At The Cross by Hillsong (Lyrics)
Oh Lord You've searched me
You know my way
Even when I fail You
I know You love me
Your holy presence
Surrounding me
In every season
I know You love me
I know You love me
At the cross I bow my knee
Where Your blood was she'd for me
There's no greater love than this
You have overcome the grave
Your glory fills the highest place
What can separate me now
You go before me
You shield my way
Your hand upholds me
I know You love me
You tore the veil
You made a way
When You said that it is done
And when the earth fades
Falls from my eyes
And You stand before me
I know You love me
I know You love me
